Émile Hamilius

Émile Hamilius ( born May 16, 1897 in Esch- sur -Alzette, † March 7, 1971 in Luxembourg ) was a Luxembourgian politician ( DP).

Career

As a young man Hamilius was successful as a football player. He played four matches for his country, and took with the national team in 1920 at the Olympic Summer Games in Antwerp. After ending his playing career, he remained connected to the football and was 1950-1961 President of the Luxembourg Football Federation ( FLF ).

His professional career began as an officer in the Luxembourg Army. Later, he served as managing director of the well-known household products and toys Lassner house on Place Guillaume II Luxembourg operates.

After the end of World War II Hamilius one of the founders of the GPD ( Groupement patriotique et Démocratique ), which later became the Democratic Party. From 1946 to 1963 he served as mayor of the city of Luxembourg. He was also from 1937 to 1940, from 1945 to 1958 and from 1959 to 1964 deputy to the Chamber of Deputies. Between 1953 and 1959 he was the second President of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions ( CEMR).

His son Jean from 1974 to 1979 as a member of the cabinet of Minister Gaston Thorn.
