Émilie de Rodat

Marie Guillemette Emilie de Rodat ( German and Maria Wilhelmina Aemilia de Rodat; * September 6, 1787 in Rodez (France), † September 19, 1852 in Villefranche -de- Rouergue ) was a French nun, mystic and foundress. She was canonized in 1950.

Life

Emilie de Rodat grew up with her grandmother and was aged 18 years and nun in Villefranche. In 1815 she decided after some dissatisfaction, as a teacher of poor children to work. With three assistants, she began in her room with the information and a tuition for the first recorded children. That was the beginning of 1816 she founded the Congregation of the " Sisters of the Holy Family of Villefranche ." Over time, the work was extended to the care of unfortunate women, orphans and old people. Mystical tendencies that had been hardly recognized in his lifetime, were pronounced at her. When she died of cancer in 1852, had called her as a religious superior of 38 institutions.
