Emiliyan Stanev

Emilijan Stanev ( Bulgarian Емилиян Станев, actually Никола Стоянов Станев Nikola Stoyanov Stanev, born February 28, 1907 in Veliko Tarnovo, † March 15, 1979 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian writer.

Life

Stanev is one of the most prominent representative of the average Bulgarian generation of writers. He was born the son of a civil servant and attended a short time the Academy of Fine Arts. Stanev studied finance and banking at the University of Sofia. First literary publications appeared in 1931. His work is characterized Stanev as philosophical and moral thinker. In addition to his socially critical and historical works he wrote many books for children and young people who are characterized by a deep understanding of the nature, as well as fairy tales. He is now one of the most significant Bulgarian writers and is considered a master of the short story. He made his debut in 1933 with the work Alluring tinsel. Further works are on a quiet evening (1947 ) and The Peach Thief (1948 ), these have been translated into many languages, eg French, Italian and German. For his work Ivan Kondarew (German: Hot summer ) in which it came to the image of the September uprising in 1923, he was awarded the Dimitrov Prize, the highest award of the country. His work includes ten nights wolf animal and hunting stories he wrote before and after the liberation of his country.

On the occasion of his 100th birthday and in recognition of his contribution to the literary and cultural heritage of the world, UNESCO declared 2007 as the Emilijan - Stanev year.
