Emirate of Dhala

The emirate Dhala (Arabic الضالع Ad Dali ʿ ), Amiri (Arabic الأميري Al- ʿ Amiri ), or even emirate of Dhala (Arabic إمارة الضالع Imārāt Ad Dali ʿ ) was a state within the British Protectorate of Aden, briefly it belonged to the Federation of Arab Emirates of the South, then the South Arabian Federation. Its capital was Dhala (Ad Dali '). The area is now part of the Republic of Yemen.

History

First, the area was under the suzerainty of the Zaidi Imams of Yemen. In the early 20th century, the state came under British rule. In the 1960s Dhala was the site of an unsuccessful rebellion against the British colonialists. The last emir of the dynasty Amiri, Ali ibn Shafaul Shaif Al Amiri, was ousted in 1967.
