Emly Starr

Emly Starr ( born September 5, 1957 in Laarne, Flanders; actually Marie -Christine Mareels ) is a Belgian singer.

Biography

Mareels began her career under the stage name Heidi, but changed this soon in Emly Starr, under which she published some pop and disco tracks in the late 1970s. In 1978, she played with the short film Santiago Lovers by Romano Ferrari. With some dancers, she founded the disc Emly Starr Explosion group with which they participated in the 11th World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo in 1980. With the song Mary Brown they reached the eighth place.

In 1981, Emly Starr at the Belgian preselection for the Euro Vision Song Contest, which was organized by the Flemish TV station BRT under the title song euro 1981. With the song Samson & Delilah she could win against the other nine remaining singers the preliminary round after a successful semi-finals. When Euro Vision Song Contest 1981 in Dublin, she received 40 points for the renamed as Samson song, reaching the 13th place among 20 participants. In 1985, she took a role in the feature film Jumping by Jean -Pierre de Decker, to which she also sang the theme song Jump in the Dark. Later she founded with her husband the Globe Show Centre in Denderleeuw, which takes over the organization of major events including for television stations.

Private

Starr is married to music producer Tony Winter, who wrote, among other songs Samson and Jump in the Dark for them. 1994, a daughter was born.
