Emmanuel Bénézit

Emmanuel Bénézit (* 1854 on Jersey, † 1920 in Paris) was a French art historian and lexicographer.

Apparently inspired by the German artist lexicon Thieme -Becker, he wrote from 1911 to 1923, the French artist lexicon Bénézit in three volumes. The first volume appeared in 1911 in a first edition and covers the painter, sculptor, draftsman and engraver from all countries and ages. The Swiss painter Henri Edmond - pointer - Viallet (1895-1994) was one of his employees. After Bénézits Death 1920 completed Marcelle Bénézit and hands - Viallet the third volume of the first edition.

The lexicon Bénézit was reprinted several times and enlarged.
