Emperor Taizu of Liao

Liao Taizu or Abaoji (Chinese耶律 阿保机, Pinyin Yēlǜ Ābǎojī; * 872, † 926 ) was a chief of the Yilastammes within the people of the Khitan, who lived in the northeast of present-day Inner Mongolia. He was a patron of the Sinicisation his tribe and ordered the construction of monasteries and temples of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. He founded several cities, such as Shangjing, whose ruins are preserved in the circle Chifeng. He moved the capital Dongjing to the capital of Bohai Kingdom, which was fixed. His son Deguang, the founder of the Liao Dynasty, posthumously awarded him the title of Liao Taizu.
