Empress Wu (Zhaolie)

Empress Wu (吴 皇后, maiden name unknown, † 245 ), formally Empress Mu (穆 皇后, fair Empress ), was an empress of Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms. Her father, whose name is not recorded historically, Liu Yan followed in the Yi Province (益州, in present-day Sichuan and Chongqing), was appointed as the governor. Thanks to the friendship between her father and Liu Yan Liu Yan's son she married Liu Miao (刘 瑁). After his death she remained a long time unmarried.

When Liu Bei Yi Province from Liu Zhang conquered (214 ), he separated officially from Sun Shang Xiang ( his wife, a sister of Sun Quan's ) and married Ms. Wu. When he assumed the title of Prince of Hanzhong in 219, he named her Princess. After the fall of the Han Dynasty in 220 ( after Emperor Xian's abdication in favor of Cao Pi) took Liu Bei 221 the Han title and established the Shu Han. In the same year he got his wife the Empress. After his death in 223, his son and successor Liu Shan honored her as empress dowager. She died in the year 245 in the Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms is not described accurately whether Liu was at, buried with her or with Ms. Gan, mother of Liu Shan.
