Empty Hills

Pustyje Cholmy (Russian Пустые холмы, even in the English translation Empty Hills known ) is an international non-profit arts and music festival in Russia. It has been held annually since 2003. The number of visitors is about 50,000. The venue changes every year and is not known until a few days before the festival. Usually the festival takes place in Smolensk Oblast Kaluga oblast or over a few days in June.

Behind Empty Hills is a business, organization or authority. Similarly, there are no major sponsors. Volunteers are responsible for the organization of the festival and it is supported by small donations. The music program is varied and is not limited to individual genres. Many unknown artists are offered space. Besides music, the program includes various art forms such as theater, cinema, dance, performances, sculptures, installations or seminars. Visitors have the opportunity to make the festival itself and to get involved.
