End of File

With EOF ( End of File ) indicates the end of a source signal, which is a file or a data stream in the control.

In ISO -C file and IO operations can return a value that corresponds to the symbolic EOF, indicating that the end has been reached. The actual value is often -1, however, this is system dependent.

In Unix, an EOF on the interactive shell ( Unix shell ) are produced by Ctrl D (conventional standard). Ctrl D corresponds to the ASCII control characters 0x04 End of transmission. In Microsoft's DOS EOF is generated by Ctrl Z. Historically, Microsoft added the DOS ASCII control character SUB 0x1A ( just Ctrl Z) actually.
