Successful programs

Among the known formats include: Big Brother, you need is love, which is produced in license and hosted by Günther Jauch Millionaire, Save the million stars at work, 17 meters and missing! .

Basis for its strong position on the German television market were the 1990s, in which Endemol with a so-called " output deal " the then successful Saturday evening shows from RTL plus (later RTL) produced; this entertainment shows such as Dream Wedding, Mini Playback Show, Trading Places, The 100,000 Mark Show belonged and how please? . Fictional formats such as City Hospital or The guard assured Endemol is also one of the leading positions in the production of television series.

The donor show

End of May 2007 came Endemol in the Netherlands in the criticism, as the production company announced a game show called De Grote Donorshow ( German: The great donor show) broadcast in which the grand prize was a human kidney as donor organ. It recruited three candidates to the kidney of a terminally ill 36 -year-old. After the audience were allowed to vote by SMS, who should get the kidney. This concept has been criticized by many people as unethical.

However, it turned out that the item was not authentic. The supposedly terminally ill donor was an actress. At the end of the program, the presenter announced the deception.

The program has thus certainly achieved two things - apart from the advertising success for Endemol:

  • She has directed attention to the controversial topic of organ donation.
  • She has once again examined critically in the medium and identifies the manipulation of the public through radio and television, similar to 1970 Wolfgang Menges The Millions game, or the classics of the genre, The War of the Worlds by Orson Welles in 1938.

Call Active

Finally, the German subsidiary of Endemol Callactive was increasingly criticized.

This involves non-transparent transactions of the produced by her call-in contests that are sent, for example, at the stations VIVA, Nick and Comedy Central and gave rise to the suspicion of irregularities. The company is in this context also increasingly often legal action against Internet posts ago. This caused the German-speaking part of the blogosphere a storm of indignation. In May 2008 Callactive took over without the knowledge of the operator 's domain recommended by LfM critical Internet Forum call -in tv.de which forwarded between time on the official site of Callactive while the Forum can be reached at call -in- tv.net since had.

On 18 April 2010, however, the page call -in- tv.net was handed over to a producer of competition programs, so that the original forum "call -in tv" in the meantime no longer existed. In the meantime, this can be reached at citv.nl.

Call Active also has to let the term "call -in tv" in conjunction with the " forums Colors" protect green and white as a brand.

In early April 2008 it was announced that Endemol has separated without public notice by using Callactive. In June of the same year Callactive withdrew from the TV production of appropriate call-in formats. The broadcast Money Express was henceforth produced by Telekom Austria subsidiary mass response GmbH. On 1 October 2008, the mission Money Express has been discontinued.
