Enrique Regüeiferos

Enrique Regüeiferos Blanco ( born June 15, 1948 in Santiago de Cuba, † 20 June 2002 ) was a Cuban boxer. He was winner of a silver medal in the light welterweight at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City.

Career

Enrique Regüeiferos comes from near Santiago de Cuba. In this city he began at the age of eight years with the boxes. He developed very quickly and won in 1964 with almost 16 years of the Cuban championship in the seniors at featherweight with a win over Osvaldo Rivera. He enjoyed then the special support of the legendary Cuban boxing Rainers Alcide Segarra. Enrique Regüeiferos was a left arm, which means that the right hand was his batting. But he was famous for his excellent left hook, which he decided many battles alone.

He also won the Cuban championship title at lightweight in the years 1965, 1966 and 1967. Doing so, he beat in the final battles each Roberto Chappo on points. In 1967, he won his first international title. He was in Winnipeg winner at the Pan American Games in the lightweight. He won over Gerald rat, Canada by KO in the 2nd round and against Ronnie Harris, USA & Luis Minami from Peru on points.

In 1968, Enrique Regüeiferos won at major international boxing tournament of the Cuban boxing federation Giraldo Córdova Cardín in Havana the competition in the light welterweight with a victory in the finals over his compatriot Lazaro Alfonso. He repeated this success in 1969 and 1970. 1969 he won the final battle Reinaldo Hernandez and Emilio Correa 1970.
