Enslaved (Soulfly album)

Occupation

Enslaved is the eighth studio album by the metal band Soulfly. It was released in March 2012 on Roadrunner Records.

Formation and style

The album was recorded in late 2011 in the Tallcat studios in Arizona and the Frick'In Studios in California. For the first time played Asesino frontman Tony Campos bass. The former drummer of Borknagar, David Kinkade, can be heard on drums. He joined the group after it had separated from predecessor Joe Nunez. Guests on the album were, inter alia, Dez Fafara ( Devildriver, Coal Chamber ) and Travis Ryan of Cattle Decapitation. Ryan replaced the originally planned Adam Warren of Oceano, who had to cancel shortly before.

The album deals with the issue of slavery in its various facets. Max Cavalera had this issue originally planned for a Sepultura album by Roots. Musically described Davide Kinkade the album as " Arise on crack ".

Reception

In the magazine Rock Hard copper Thomas saw a " return to old virtues". " The hardcore influences have made a combination of brutality and quite melodic moments place". He forgave eight out of ten.
