Entrecampos

The Praça de Entrecampos [ pɾasɐ dɯ ɛtɾɯkɐpuʃ ] (Eng. space between fields ) is a place in the Portuguese capital Lisbon, which is located at the intersection of Avenida das Armadas forcas (west), Avenida da República (south) and Avenida dos Estados Unidos da América ( East) is located. He falls directly between Campo Grande ( to German large field ) and Campo Pequeno ( to German small field ).

The square is surrounded numerous high-rise buildings with many apartments. By 2009, a major project of the city government to clean up the houses takes place, it should inter alia 67,000 m² living space, 24,000 sq m of office space and 12,000 m² of retail space partially rehabilitated as also be built. The costs are expected to amount to approximately 150 million euros.

In the middle of the square is the inaugurated on January 8, 1932 Monumento aos Heróis da Guerra Peninsular, to German monument to the heroes of peninsulanischen war. The competition for the new monument in 1908 won the two brothers, Francisco de Oliveira Ferreira (architect ) and José de Oliveira Ferreira (sculptor ). The first studies for the establishment of the foundation were still held in September 1908 due to the complicated political and economic situation of Portugal in the twenties construction was not completed until 1931. The inauguration took place in the presence of the Portuguese President António Óscar de Fragoso Carmona.

Since 1891 there is south of the course the Lisbon Entrecampos station, stop at the suburban trains today the state Comboios de Portugal and the private transport company FERTAGUS. In addition, since 1959, passed under the Lisbon Metro, today the yellow line, the space and keeps well north of Lisbon Entrecampos station ( see Entre Campos metro station ).
