History

In the Middle Ages Enzweihingen belonged to the diocese of Speyer. After the battle of Lauffen in 1534 Enzweihingen came under the rule of Duke Ulrich of Württemberg, and thus necessarily to the Protestant denomination. The religious edict of 1806 did little to the sectarian division. It was only due to the influx of expellees in 1945 established himself again a Catholic church on the spot.

In Enzweihingen already existed in the early 16th century coaching inn on the run by the taxis, later Thurn und Taxis riding post on the Dutch postal route that led from Brussels, at Worms and Speyer ( Rheinhausen ) by over Augsburg, Innsbruck and Trento in Italy. Geography

Location

Enzweihingen located approximately three kilometers east of the center of Vaihingen between Strohgäu and Heckengäu, at the confluence of Kreuzbach, Strudelbachhalle and Enz to 200-300 m height. The neighboring towns are ( from northeast clockwise) Oberriexingen, powder things, high village, Riet, Aurich, Vaihingen an der Enz

Traffic

Enzweihingen is located on the main road 10 - Pforzheim Stuttgart, and close to the high-speed line Mannheim- Stuttgart, the Enz just northeast of Enzweihingen crosses the 1044 m long Enztal bridge and enters the landmark tunnel. A dedicated rail connection no longer exists since the closure of the Vaihingen rail 2002.

The route of the B 10 through the town ensures a high burden of local residents. Since the 1970s, alternatives are designed and planned. Is a current subject of a federal, state and city preferred tunnel solution under the present course of the B 10, and two favored by a citizens' initiative variants of a bypass through the industrial area located on the northern outskirts of the village. Because of it but also parts of the Enzauen would be affected, there are conservation -related hurdles.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of Enzweihingen shows the split front plate in an upright red golden Bockhorn, back in an upright black gold deer rod. The stag bar shows the affiliation of Enzweihingen to Württemberg. The oldest known coat of arms of Enzweihingen dates from the early 15th century and is today largely the same coat of arms.
