Eosinophilic granuloma

Under the name of eosinophil granuloma complex is a group of clinical symptoms in the skin and / or the oral cavity is summarized in the domestic cat. It is therefore not an independent disease, but cats typical lesions that can have various causes. In this complex, eosinophilic plaques, the collagenolytic granuloma, indolent ulcer and, more recently, the miliary dermatitis are classified.

Eosinophilic plaque

Eosinophilic plaques are raised, round or oval, reddened, weeping and ulcerated skin lesions. They occur mainly on the belly, the inside of the hind legs and the anal region. The plaques are associated with intense itching, so that they are thoroughly licked.

As a cause for the development of eosinophilic plaques that licking is even assumed that they arise only in places where cats sat long with her tongue. Triggering factors are especially allergies ( food allergy, flea allergy, atopic dermatitis). This triggered lesions are secondarily infected by bacteria and are characterized by a migration of eosinophils. The diagnosis can be made by a poor copy preparation, can be detected at the microscopic numerous eosinophils and bacteria. Treatment depends on the cause.

Collagenolytic granuloma

The collagenolytic granuloma, also linear or eosinophilic granuloma, is a strip-shaped, yellowish -red and raised skin hardening that occurs mainly on the hind legs. Less common manifestations are the mouth area, oral cavity, the ear and the paws. The collagenolytic granuloma occurs mainly in young animals. It shows no other symptoms, hair loss does not occur primarily. In ulcerative modification occurs to the secretion of collagen in the form of small whitish crumbs, it can become infected and then also trigger itching. Cytologically as those of the eosinophilic plaque numerous eosinophils detectable.

Causes are also all kinds of allergy, but also mosquito bites, genetic factors, foreign body reactions and viral infections are discussed as potential triggers. The collagenolytic granuloma of the oral cavity occurs without apparent cause ( idiopathy ).

The collagenolytic granuloma may disappear spontaneously. The treatment depends on the cause. In allergic reactions an allergen avoidance or desensitization can be attempted. Glucocorticoids, PLR 120 and cyclosporine are also used. Mosquito repellents can be applied. Persistent and recurrent collagenolytic granulomas can also be surgically treated with radio or laser therapy.

Indolent ulcer

The indolent ulcer ( " painless ulcer ") is an ulcerated, slightly moist and crusty change in height of the canine. As a traumatic cause irritation of the lip, it is assumed by the canine and / or tongue, which leads to secondary bacterial infection. The indolent ulcer is usually treatable by antibiotics.

A nodular indurated swelling of the upper lip, which subsequently can change ulcerated also is assigned to the collagenolytic granuloma today.

Miliary dermatitis

Miliary dermatitis is a skin reaction characterized by millet-seeds, nodules and crusts. It can occur in all allergies, but also for fungal skin infections and infestation with mites and fleas. In the miliary dermatitis necessarily a clarification of the cause is necessary and in accordance with these to choose the therapy.
