Epaphroditus

Epaphroditus (Greek Ἐπαφρόδιτος; Latin form of Epaphroditus ) was a close associate, brother and fellow of Paul.

From the church at Philippi sent Epaphroditus with some gifts to Paul in prison (probably in Rome). Thus Paul was there, fully furnished. Move Epaphroditus became deathly ill shortly before the finish. But he recovered again and Paul was a faithful servant, while he was sitting in jail. He was worried about the fact that the community had heard in Philippi that he was seriously ill and, therefore, Paul sent him a letter there and back. Epaphroditus is mentioned twice in the Letter to the Philippians: Phil 2,25 EU and Phil 4,18 EU.

Epaphroditus is counted among the seventy disciples. He is venerated as a saint; His feast day is March 22.

A Epaphrositus was according to legend, also the first Bishop of Terracina, said to have been used there by Peter. But even if this Epaphroditus should be historical, it is doubtful whether he is identical to the Epaphroditus from Philippi.

The name Epaphroditus originally meant " favorite of Aphrodite", and later simply " sweet" or " loving ".
