Epiphyllum pumilum is a flowering plant in the genus Epiphyllum from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet pumilum means (Latin pumilus ) dwarf '.

Description

Epiphyllum pumilum grows upright to semi- continuous with up to 5 meters long shoots. The main shoots are turning around at the base, flattened and leaf-like about it. The side shoots are usually flattened 2.5 to 9 cm wide and narrow towards the tip. They are corrugated except for the edges.

The fragrant creamy white flowers are 10 to 15 inches long. The reddish, ribbed fruits are covered with small reddish scales.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Epiphyllum is pumilum widespread in southern Mexico and in Guatemala and Belize at altitudes up to 1670 meters. The first description of Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose was published in 1913.

In the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN, the type is known as " Least Concern ( LC) ," ie, than not led at risk.
