Epipubic bone

The marsupial bones (Os epipubis, plural Ossa epubica ) is a paired bone, which is typical for marsupials and monotremes and for the corresponding only to be found among them. It involves two from the pubic bone of the pelvis forward projecting bones. Since the egg-laying monotremes have marsupial bones, it is believed that it could be explained by an original mammalian feature that has been reduced during evolution of higher mammals.

Since the marsupial bones are also present in the males and bagless types, it is believed that these bones had anything to do with reproduction, but served the muscle attachment for movement of the hind limbs. As abdominal wall bone they are incorporated into this.
