In cross country the individual ranking plunged Konrad Freiherr von Wangenheim with his horse " Elector " and broke his left collarbone. Despite the injury, he got back on his horse and finished the ride. With immovable arm, he started again the next day, crashed again and forced himself back to finish the ride, so he saved the gold medal for the German team.
