Erbach (Rheingau)

Erbach (Rheingau ) is a district of Champagne, Wine and Rose City Eltville in the Rheingau -Taunus-Kreis in Hesse. With approximately 3600 inhabitants Erbach is after the core city is the second largest district.

Geographical location

Erbach is the middle of the three on the Rhine Eltviller neighborhoods and between Had home in the west and the core city Eltville in the east. The town has developed on the old leading east-west direction through the Rheingaustraße. The village lies at an altitude of 86 meters.

History

The original, since the 11th century documented proven Name Eberbach was contracted later. It is found today in the name of Kloster Eberbach. Erbach already belonged in the Middle Ages with the entire Rheingau to kurmainzischen territory of the archbishopric of Mainz. A number of houses of the nobility and followers of the Elector of Mainz had here lands and estates, including the baron Langwerth of simmering and the Barons to Knyphausen.

After dissolution of the electorate Erbach in 1803 went to Nassau- Usingen and belonged to the time of the Duchy of Nassau to the Official Eltville. After the annexation of the Duchy of Prussia in 1867, the town was assigned to the Rheingau district in the administrative district of Wiesbaden.

In the course of municipal reform in Hesse, the community Erbach (Rheingau ) was incorporated on 1 January 1977 with other communities in the city Eltville. For Erbach a local district with town council and mayor was set up as for each district. The boundaries of the local districts since then follow the district boundaries.

Economy

Erbach is one of the famous wine-growing villages in the Rheingau. The Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy Eichberg is between the road to Kloster Eberbach and the edge of the forest in the district Erbacher and can therefore be considered as the largest employer in the district. Other major employers are in addition to those vineyards and gastronomy two elderly residential and nursing homes. Some commercial establishments are located close to the Protestant parish church. To Erbach also includes the location on the Marienhohe Children and Youth Village Bethany.

Traffic

Although Erbach lies near the banks of the Rhine, since the late 1950s is of this but separated by the expansion of the national highway 42 as a bypass. Erbach is about three connection points from the main road out of reach. This is four lanes connected to the federal motorway 66 since 1989, bypassing Eltville and Walluf. Erbach is holding station for regional trains on the right track Rhine between Wiesbaden and Koblenz. From the train station K638 crosses the railway line with a beschrankten crossing.

Attractions

At the western entry are Weingut und Hotel Schloss Reinhartshausen with a publicly accessible castle park and the Catholic parish church of St. Mark. The church was built in the 15th century and enlarged in the 18th century. To the east of Erbach Princess Marianne of Prussia was in 1861 in memory of her late son built the neo-Gothic St. John's Church, the oldest Protestant church in the upper Rheingau.

Erbacher vineyards

Viticulture in Erbach is occupied since the Middle Ages. With 269 hectares of the vineyard takes in Erbach up most of the arable land. Erbacher district is part of the major site Honigsberg.

Best-known location is the 6.7 hectare Erbacher Marcobrunn, located between Erbach and Hattenheim above the old federal road around the neo-classical building designed as a fountain version. The location regularly brings forth quality predicate wines that achieve a rare wine auctions at peak maximum prices. A special feature is the location Erbacher Rhine Light on the 68.5 -acre island in the Rhine Mariannenaue. It is the largest of the two vineyards on the 23 acre acreage of the Rhine island.
