The Agrianes (now Ergene ) is a 281 km long tributary of the Hebrus / Evros / Maritsa in the Turkish part of the Thrace ( Eastern Thrace ).

Name

The ancient name for this river was Agrianes. Today it is called in Turkish Ergene on Modern Greek Εργίνος ( Erginus ).

Geography

The source is located in the beach Saddle Mountains not far from the Black Sea, at the mouth here the boundary forming to Greece Maritsa about 10 km north of the city İpsala. The catchment area covers 17 323 square kilometers. In the lower part of his highly meandering course of the river is channeled.
