Eric Bristow

Eric Bristow MBE ( born April 25, 1957 in Hackney, London) is a former English darts player.

Career

Through his countless successes in major international Dartwettkämpfen and a long time as the leader of the world rankings Eric Bristow became a living legend of the sport of darts.

His nickname "The Crafty Cockney " he received through his Cockney accent. Another typical feature is its unique throwing style, in which he abspreizt the little finger far.

Although he had a reputation for being arrogant and aloof, his sporting achievements were surpassed by few. He won, among others, the following tournaments: World Championship (1980, 1981, 1984, 1985, 1986 ), World Masters (1977, 1979, 1981, 1983, 1984), World Matchplay (1985, 1988), British Open (1978, 1981, 1986), World Cup Singles (1983, 1985, 1987 ).

In the Swedish Open 1987 ill Bristow to Dartitis. This meant that he had trouble letting go of the arrow when shedding. Although he was able to overcome the disease over the years and in the meantime to reclaim the top spot in the world rankings in 1990, but he never regained his form.

1988 Eric Bristow was awarded the title of " Player of the Year." He was appointed by the Queen Member of the Order of the British Empire ( MBE) in 1989.

Bristow retired in 2000 from the professional darts back, but is still active in many show tournaments. He is also considered a discoverer and promoter of the talent of Phil Taylor.

2012 Bristow took part in the English version of I'm a Celebrity jungle camps ... Get Me Out of Here and finished with twelve participants in fourth place.

Today, he is among other things a TV pundit with Sky Sports England.
