Eric Crees

Eric Crees (* 1952 in London, England) is Principal Trombone of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Previously, he was for 27 years, first trombonist with the London Symphony Orchestra ( LSO). He is a renowned teacher, arranger and composer for brass music.

Life

Eric Crees was born in London in 1952 and studied at the Wandsworth School, where he sang in the famous boys' choir and thus early had the opportunity to play with many professional orchestras and conductors. This school also is Benjamin Britten connected for many years, who wrote a solo part in Children's Crusade for Crees.

During his school days he was a part-time scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He studied music at the University of Surrey, where he won the ' Joyce Dixey Award for composition. At the same time he was also a member of the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble. After completion of his studies he was trombonist with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1973. After seven years, he became in 1980 the first trombonist with the LSO

In 1991 Cree teacher at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he is still active was. In addition, he is often master classes around the world, including the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, the Ulster Youth Orchestra and the Pacific Youth Orchestra in Japan.

Eric Crees is the conductor and arranger for the Royal Opera House Brass Soloists. Previously headed for many years the London Symphony Orchestra Brass. With LSO Brass, he performed regularly at the Barbican Centre and recorded several CDs. Many arrangements on these CDs came from Crees themselves The best known of these are Leonard Bernstein's Suite from West Side Story, Aaron Copland's El Salon Mexico and Charles Ives ' Variations on 'America'. Crees played with LSO Brass also for Naxos on three CDs, the entire instrumental music by Giovanni Gabrieli one.
