Eric Crozier

Eric Crozier ( born November 14, 1914 in London, † September 7, 1994 in Granville (Manche), France) was a British stage director and librettist, who was best known for his collaboration with Benjamin Britten.

Crozier received his education at the Old Vic Theatre in London and then worked at the English National Opera; In 1945, he staged at Sadler's Wells Theatre Britten's first opera Peter Grimes. In 1948, Crozier along with Britten and Peter Pears, the Aldeburgh Festival, and wrote the libretto for Britten's Saint Nicolas Cantata. Previously, he had staged the world premiere of Britten's opera The Rape of Lucretia ( with his wife Nancy Evans in the lead role ). Later he followed Pears as festival director in Aldeburgh after.

Crozier died in 1994 in the French Granville few weeks before his 80th birthday.
