Eric Hultén

Oskar Gunnar Eric Hultén ( born March 18, 1894 in Halla, historical province of Södermanland, † 1 February 1981) was a Swedish botanist and Phytogeograph.

Life and work

Hultén put his licentiate in 1931 from the University of Stockholm and worked as a curator at the Botanical Museum in Lund. He disputed 1937 at Lund University and received her doctorate. From 1945 until his retirement in 1961, Hultén professor and head of the botanical department of the Naturhistoriska riksmuseet in Stockholm.

Hultén appeared as the author of several botanical monographs on the Nordic countries and from his travels in Siberia and the Aleutian Islands. In his work, he was a tireless traveler who studied the plants of the northern hemisphere and cataloged and collected samples of plants. From 1932 onwards, he explored in this sense, Alaska and the Aleutian Islands in order to give their plants accepted labels. He was the first researcher to the similarities of plants in Alaska, with those which he had collected on previous trips to Siberia since 1937 in a context of the connection by a land bridge that Beringia, between Alaska and Siberia during the Ice Age sat.

From the marriage with Elsie Pontus Hultén Hultén emerged.

His author abbreviation for botanical taxa is Hultén.
