Erich von Tschermak

Erich Tschermak, Edler von Seysenegg (* November 15, 1871 in Vienna, † October 11, 1962 ibid ), was an Austrian botanist, plant breeders and geneticists. His father was the mineralogist Gustav Tschermak, his older brother, the physiologist Armin Tschermak. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Tscherm. - Seys. ".

Life

In addition to Hugo de Vries and Carl Correns, Tschermak is considered the third " re-discoverer " of decades earlier enlightened by Gregor Mendel Mendel's laws of inheritance. He had, however, himself researching for a short time in this area, and several authors argue that Tschermak Mendel's discoveries have apparently not understood at the time of his own publication in 1900 and therefore could not apply for his rediscovery.

Tschermak bred numerous agriculturally and horticulturally important plant hybrids.

He is buried in an honorary grave dedicated to the Döblinger Cemetery (Group MO, number 90) in Vienna.
