Erik Bruhn

Erik Bruhn ( born October 3, 1928 in Copenhagen, Denmark as Belton Evers, † April 1, 1986 in Toronto ) was one of the greatest ballet dancers of his time. For years he was the life companion of the Russian ballet stars Rudolf Nureyev.

From 1967 to 1972 Bruhn was director of the Royal Swedish Ballet. From 1983 he served as artistic director of the National Ballet of Canada.

Erik Bruhn died at the age of 57 years at the Toronto General Hospital. His death is seen in conjunction with lung cancer, according to Pierre -Henri Verlhac he could but his died of AIDS. He is buried in an unmarked grave on the Mariebjerg Cemetery in Gentofte, a suburb of Copenhagen.
