Erik Josefsson (activist)

Erik Josefsson since 2007, Chairman of the European offices of the Electronic Frontier Foundation in Brussels. Until then, the Swede since 2000 had already fulfilled a similar role as " Ambassador of the Fördervereines for a Free Information Infrastructure in Brussels".

Civil rights activist fought in the years 2000 and 2002 successfully against forced by the German politician Brigitte Zypries amendment to the European Patent Convention and the consequent threat of introduction of software patents in the EU ( " Directive on computer-implemented inventions "). He succeeded and his colleagues the protection of open- content software to maintain. As a representative of FFIIs he received, together with Florian Müller, for the " CNET Networks UK Technology Award " in the category " Outstanding Contribution to Software Development".

He was already active as chairman of the Swedish Association of the FFII before his appointment in Brussels.

His work is supported by the Shuttleworth Foundation ( Ubuntu, Thawte ). He is a member of the Scandinavian Linux User Group SSLUG. In 2004 he was chosen by the Swedish IT Magazine " NyTeknik " one of the 50 most influential people of the Swedish it- scene. He is a speaker at numerous events ( "Summit ", " GUADEC ", " Holland Open Software Conference ").

Little is known about his private life, except for his penchant for " political music " and that he can play bass.
