Erik Pontoppidan

Erik Ludvigsen Pontoppidan, the Yngre ( the Younger ), (born 24 Augustjul / September 3 1698greg in Aarhus, .. † December 20, 1764 in Copenhagen) was a Danish theologian, preacher, historian and author.

Life

Pontoppidan was born as the son of Pastor Ludvig Pontoppidan from a Danish pastor's family. He studied theology at the University of Copenhagen. He then worked as a lecturer in Norway, the Netherlands and England. In 1721 he became tutor of Frederick Charles, who was 1722 Duke of Holstein - Plön, later he was a preacher at the castle Nordborg.
