Erlöserkirche (Dresden)

The Redeemer Church was the church of the Evangelical Lutheran church Bohemian exiles to Dresden. She was on the street in Paul-Gerhardt-Straße/Wittenberger Striesen district of Dresden and was built in 1878-1880 by God Help Louis Moeckel in the Neo-Gothic style. The church was destroyed in 1945 during the air raids on Dresden and worn 1961/1962.

Description

The church was a three-aisled sacred building with a polygonal choir. The ship was dreijochig with transverse hipped roofs. The windows and portals were high Gothic. The interior showed pillars and groined vault. The aisles of the nave and two aisles plant were equipped with galleries. The façade adorned with a tall tower. As the upper completion of the tower in an open pointed arch position bell storey was seen with normal use. Then rested a high clad in slate spire, which had on all sides equilateral triangular pediment. The Municipal Building Authority of Dresden in 1959 claimed pursuant to § 14 of the abutment Law of 6 September 1950, the four religious sites of Andreas Saviour community for housing. On one of the four claimed land was located the ruins of the Church of the Redeemer, on the second the destroyed church building and on the third destroyed the rectory. In opposition proceedings the ruined church was described as a " cultural monument of special type " of the superintendent Gerhart Wendelin. Reason for this is that the Church of the Redeemer was built by the descendants of the Lutherans, who were persecuted in Prague and had to flee in 1639. It is thus an architectural testimony of the church Bohemian exiles, which would still spoken czech within the community and the connection to Prague have been preserved to the then present day. Thus, it would also be simultaneously a " living testimony Czech-German friendship". Thus, when held in the ruins of church in the summer had been there also delegations from Czechoslovakia. Nevertheless, it was canceled in 1961.
