Ernest Bour

Ernest Bour ( born April 20, 1913 in Thionville, † June 20, 2001 in Strasbourg ) was a French conductor, specialist of classical modernism and the avant-garde of his time. He received his musical education at the Strasbourg Conservatory and began his career as a conductor of the Strasbourg Philharmonic. 1964-1979 he inherited Hans Rosbaud as chief conductor of the SWF Sinfonieorchester Baden -Baden. Bour died 88 years old in Strasbourg.

The meticulous, somewhat dry, serious and highly respected conductor left behind a wealth of recordings, including probably the best recording of Luigi Dallapiccola's Ulisse masterpiece.
