Ernesto Castano

Ernesto Castano ( born 2 May 1939 in Cinisello Balsamo (MI), Italy ) is a retired Italian footballer.

Castano is one of the many great defenders in the history of Italian football, and together with Giancarlo Bercellino in the 1960s, a legendary center-back duo at Juventus.

Career

In the club

Ernesto Castano began his career with his hometown club, Balsamese. In 1956 he moved to AC Legnano in Serie B, where he was only 17 years already regulars. The following season he played again in the second division in the U.S. Triestina.

In 1958, he was finally obliged by Juventus, for which he against whom the AS Bari celebrated his Serie A debut on 22 November 1958. At the age of just 20, he was able to celebrate with Juve in the season 1959/60 winning his first Italian championship. By 1962, Castaño was usually only a substitute, starting from the season 1962/63 he was a regular in the defense, and together with Giancarlo Bercellino a legendary central defense. Castano completed a total of 335 games in Dress by Juventus, scoring two goals, he could each win the championship and the Coppa Italia three times.

Ernesto Castano ended his active career in 1971, at the age of only 32 years, at Lane Rossi Vicenza.

In the National Team

His debut in the national team celebrated Ernesto Castano on November 29, 1959 in a 1-1 draw in the match against Hungary in Florence.

Then went over eight years until his second international match. Nevertheless, he was appointed by Ferruccio Valcareggi in the squad for the Squadra Azzurra for the 1968 European Championship on home soil, the semi-finals against the USSR and in the first final against Yugoslavia on the court and became European Champion.

The last of his seven caps for Italy Castano graduated on March 29, 1969 in a 2-2 draw against East Germany in Berlin.
