Ernesto Herrera

Ernesto Herrera ( * March 20, 1889 (also 1886 and 1887 are partly called as year of birth) in Montevideo, † February 19, 1917 ) was an Uruguayan playwright.

Life

Herrera, who is also seen as a successor Florencio Sánchez ', his creative period began in 1910 with the melodrama Mala laya, which was taken on a day for a wage of 50 pesos. During a stay in Europe he wrote in Madrid El estanque. At the age of 22, he then created the significant in the context of the Uruguayan literature drama El leon ciego. Shortly before his death, during his lifetime often ailing Herrera returned to Montevideo, where in his tuberculosis was diagnosed in advanced stages. He eventually died in the hospital Fermin Ferreira city of his birth. His life's work was not published until 50 years after his death.
