Ernő Rubik

Ernő Rubik [ ɛrnø rubik ː ] ( born July 13, 1944 in Budapest, Hungary) is a Hungarian sculptor, architect and designer at the Academy of Industrial Arts in Budapest. He is the inventor of the world famous Rubik's cube. Also he invented Rubik's Clock and Rubik's Magic.

Life

Rubik's father was a flight engineer, his mother a poet. In 1967 he received his diploma in civil engineering from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and then undertook studies in sculpture and interior architecture. From 1971 to 1975 he worked as an architect, then returned to the academy and became a professor at the Moholy - Nagy University of Art Craft and Design in Budapest.

In the early 1980s, he was editor of a game and puzzle journal called ... És játék ("... and play " ), made in 1983 with the founding of the Rubik Stúdió, where he designed furniture and games, independently. In 1987 he received a permanent position as a professor and in 1990 President of the Hungarian Engineering Academy. At this academy he founded the International Rubik Foundation to support especially talented young engineers and industrial designers.

Currently he is working mainly in the development of video games and in the field of architecture and remains at the helm, the Rubik's Studio.

Rubik's Cube and other inventions

In 1974 Rubik achieved a great commercial success with his design of the eponymous Rubik's Cube. As a result, he designed more puzzles and mechanical puzzles that were marketed mostly under his name. But none of the subsequent mechanical puzzles and mathematical games could build on the success of the cube. More or less successful:
