Ernst Hairer

Ernst Hairer ( born June 19, 1949 in Nauders ) is an Austrian mathematician with work in the field of ordinary differential equations.

Hairer received his doctorate in 1973 at the University of Innsbruck ( A general method for ordinary differential equations) and is a professor at the University of Geneva. He is known for the two-volume work Solving Ordinary Differential Equations ( Hairer, Syvert Nørsett, Gerhard Wanner ) and the freely available implementations of numerical integrators.

His son Martin Hairer is also a mathematician, professor at Warwick.
