Ernst-Joachim Mestmäcker

Ernst -Joachim Mestmäcker (born 25 September 1926 in Hameln ) is a German legal scholar.

Life

Mestmäcker his doctorate in 1953 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, where he was habilitated in 1958. In 1959 he was ordained professor and taught in Washington DC, Saarbrücken, Münster, Bielefeld ( where he founding rector from 1967 to 1969 was at the same time ) and Hamburg. He was also in the years 1965, 1976 and 2000 Visiting Professor at the University of Michigan. From 1979 to 1994 he was a director at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law.

Mestmäcker was 1960-2006 Member of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. From 1960 to 1970 he was Special Adviser to the EEC Commission for competition policy and legislative alignment, 1973-1978 Chairman of the Monopolies Commission established pursuant to § 24 GWB and since 1997 a member and from January 2000 to 2002 Chairman of the Commission on Concentration in the Media ( KEK ). Mestmäcker is a senior member of the Academy of Sciences in Hamburg.

His research focuses on the German, European and international business law, with a focus on competition and copyright law.

Mestmäcker is co-editor of the journal ORDO - Yearbook of the order of business and society.
