Ernst Larsen

Ernst Willy Larsen ( born July 18, 1926 in Ranheim, Sør -Trøndelag ) is a former Norwegian athlete who was third in the 1956 Olympic 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Ernst Larsen was second in the 1950 Norwegian Championships in steeplechase. In 1951 he won the first league title in 1955, 1956, 1957 and 1959 was followed by four more titles.

At the European Championships in 1954 in Bern Larsen won the first heat before Hungary Sándor Rozsnyói. In the final of Ungar won ahead of Finland Olavi Rinteenpää, as a third party improved Larsen Norwegian record 8:53,2 minutes. Two years later, Larsen succeeded in Trondheim with 8:42,4 minutes, the fastest run of his career. Overall put Larsen on 15 Norwegian records. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 Larsen could qualify as the third of the first forward travel in 8:46,8 minutes for the final. In the finals, he came in 8:44,0 minutes approach almost to his best time and reached behind the British surprise winner Chris Brasher and Sándor Rozsnyói third in the goal.
