Erowid

Erowid is a non-governmental organization that was founded in October 1995. The English-language website of Erowid is an online database of information about psychoactive substances and related topics and has a daily average of over 41,000 visitors ( June 2005). Erowid is operated by officially recognized as a non-profit organization " Erowid Center" since 1 January 2008. The organization is based in the north of the U.S. state of California, the servers are located in San Francisco. Erowid is funded solely by donations. Banners or other advertising does not exist on the site.

Neutrality is an important part of Erowid. There is criticism that the site promotes drug use. Erowid rejects this criticism and admits to publish everything that the qualitative standards enough, whether is now expressed positively, neutrally or negatively to a drug. This would, however, viewed by promoting prohibitionist opinion of representatives who accepted only a negative opinion towards drug use as drug use.

The database contains more than 50,000 documents and is about 37 gigabytes (April 2009). The documents include, among other things, research reports, pictures and advice and provide information on the chemistry, the dosage, the effects of the laws, to health, to drug testing and traditional and spiritual use of a psychoactive substance.
