History

The Institute was the first in the Pasteurgasse ( in the same building, in which Schrödinger lived at times) and is since 1996, located in the Boltzmanngasse 9, near the Faculties of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Vienna.

The Austrian Ministry of Science intended to January 1, 2011, the adjustment to the financial support of the Institute. The public announcement in November 2010 had provoked protest in the scientific community. The Institute has been run by the University of Vienna since 1 June 2011.
