Erynnis marloyi is a butterfly of the family of Skipper ( Hesperiidae ).

Features

The forewing length is 14 to 15 millimeters. The top is dark brown with faint white border points. On the fore wings there is a narrow black brown Subbasalbinde and an oblique dark, slightly gray -pollinated Postdiskalbinde. Before the Apex two and three point-like spots are seen. The hind wings are dark brown and unmarked. The underside is solid brown with white spots on the fore wings as on the top. The female is slightly larger and brighter. The male has no Kostal envelope.

Geographic occurrence and habitat

Erynnis marloyi is from the south of the Balkans (Bulgaria, Albania, Macedonia, Greece, European part of Turkey ) through Asia Minor, Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Iraq, northern Iran, Afghanistan and distributed in Transcaucasia. He lives on dry slopes, in ravines on carbonate rocks. It is encountered in mountainous 600-2000 meters and above.

Way of life

The moths fly from mid-May to late June. The females suck Thymianen ( thymus). The moths are disturbing extremely shy and very light. The caterpillars feed on Rosaceae.
