Erythrae

Erythrai (Greek Ἐρυθραί ), later Litri was an ancient Greek city in Asia Minor landscape Ionia. She lay on the Aegean Sea coast of modern Turkey at the village in the district of Çeşme Ildır the province of İzmir.

Erythrai was a member of the Ionian Federation. From the 6th to the 4th century BC the city was alternately under Persian and Athenian control. Also during the Hellenism changed the political orientation Erythrais several times. Since the end of the Pergamon Empire in 133 BC it belonged as a free city ( civitas libera ) to the province of Asia of the Roman Empire.

The Sibyl Erythrai had their headquarters there

On the northern slope of the Acropolis ruins of a theater are available. In addition, remnants of the city walls can be seen.
