Espeyroux

Espeyroux ( Occitan: Espeiros ) is a commune with 96 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Lot in the Midi-Pyrénées region. Espeyroux is part of the Regional Natural Park Causses du Quercy.

Location

Espeyroux located near the source of the river Ouysse at an altitude of approximately 500 meters above sea level. inst on the southwestern edge of the Massif Central, at about the boundary between the fertile region of Limargue and it is highly distinctive limestone soils of Ségala. The place is located on a side route of the Camino de Santiago ( Via Podiensis ) about halfway between Rocamadour and Gramat and Figeac; the town of Cahors is located about 70 kilometers south-west.

Demographics

Since the beginning of the censuses in 1793, the population of about 500 continuously decreased to the present level.

Economy

In skin -Quercy agriculture was operated primarily for self-catering, which included the wine until the 19th century, but was abandoned almost entirely after the phylloxera crisis. Today - in addition agriculture, small trade and crafts - the tourism in the form of apartment rentals ( gîtes ) a certain role in the economy of the community.

History

Espeyroux was until 1859 a hamlet of the town of Saint -Maurice -en- Quercy. In 1862 the parish church was built and in 1877 the town was community status.
