Esplugues de Llobregat

Esplugues de Llobregat [ əspluɣəs də ʎʊβɾəɣɑt ] is a Catalan city in the province of Barcelona, in northeastern Spain. It is located in the comarca of Baix Llobregat. It belongs to the metropolitan area Area Metropolitana de Barcelona.

Location and climate

Esplugues is located on the lower reaches of the Llobregat in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. Due to its location at the foot of the Serra de Collserola it is regularly threatened by heavy downpours by floods. The climate is Mediterranean with hot summers and low rainfall; but these concentrated on the spring and fall.

History

Although the first documented mention of Esplugues from the 10th century comes, finds place in nearby cities ( Sant Just Desvern, Cornella de Llobregat) but also suggest that the area of Esplugues was inhabited before.

Culture

On July 22, the feast of the patron saint of Santa Magdalena is celebrated. The Festa Major takes place at Sant Mateu on September 21.

In Esplugues there is the American School of Barcelona, ​​and since 1986 also a Japanese school. 1977 established the German School of Barcelona, a new school building. This is also the first Spanish class this school were established.
