The breakpoint Essen Süd is an S- Bahn stop in Essen's South District. The former station building is a listed building.

History

1877, the railway line Essen-Werden -Essen was completed by the Bergisch- Märkischen Railway Company.

1914, the South Railway Station was built on the model to Berlin suburban railway stations. The building complex is located on both sides of the deep tracks. The main building consists of a single-storey building with a gabled roof, its frontage is framed by columns based on classical buildings. The outhouse on the other side of the tracks is a smaller, set back from the road building with a hipped roof. Both parts of the building are connected to a closed transition. The ensemble was registered on 14 April 1988, in the list of monuments of the city of Essen.

Since 1974, the breakpoint Essen Süd is served by the S -Bahn line S6.

Current situation

The breakpoint is currently operating in the rail transport exclusively by the S- Bahn Rhein -Ruhr. It lies on the railway line Essen-Werden -Essen ( Route number 450.6 ), which connects the Ruhrtalbahn with the Essen main railway station.

In operation Jobs Directory of Deutsche Bahn, the breakpoint has EESD the abbreviation. The breakpoint is out in the train station category 5 ( " transport system halt ").

The former station building from 1914, which is no longer used as such today, there is a restaurant with beer garden. The station has two outdoor platforms to be accessible from disposals of the road.
