The Dom - Afonso Henriques Stadium - (Portuguese: Estádio D. Afonso Henriques ) is a football stadium in the Portuguese city of Guimarães, it was named after the first Portuguese King Afonso Henriques.

History

The venue has hosted two group matches of the European Football Championship 2004. The stadium holds 30,000 spectators and was officially opened on 25 July 2003. The stadium was built by the architect Eduardo Guimarães is in possession of the football club Vitória Guimarães.

The entire stadium was redesigned to ensure the capacity of 30,000 seats. Since it is in the city center of Guimarães, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the entire environment had to be considered in the transformation. On 25 July 2003, the stadium was inaugurated with a match between Vitória Guimarães and 1 FC Kaiserslautern, which ended 4-1.
