Ethel Smith (athlete)

Ethel Smith ( Ethel M. Smith, born July 5, 1907 in Toronto, Ontario, † 31 December 1979 ibid ) was a Canadian track and field athlete and Olympic champion.

1928 Smith traveled to the Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. The press dubbed before the competition, the small group of Canadian athletes as The Matchless Six ( The incomparable Six ). Smith won gold in the 4 x 100 meters relay together with Fanny Rosenfeld, Florence Bell and Myrtle Cook, as well as the bronze medal in the 100 -meter run behind the US-American Betty Robinson (Gold) and her friend, the Canadian Fanny Rosenfeld (silver).
