Ethiopian Catholic Archeparchy of Addis Abeba

The Archdiocese of Addis Ababa (Latin: Archidioecesis Neanthopolitanus ) is the headquarter of united with the Roman Catholic Church Ethiopian Catholic Church.

It was founded in 1839 out of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate of Syria, Egypt, Arabia and Cyprus as Apostolic Prefecture of Abyssinia. As Prefect Apostolic of Abyssinia, the Italian Lazarist Justinus de Jacobi was appointed. The Abyssinia Prefecture announced on May 4, 1846 parts of its territory as Apostolic Vicariate of Galla from. The prefecture itself was collected in 1847 in the rank of apostolic vicariate. On March 25, 1937 his apostolic prefectures Tigrai, Gondar and Dessie were then stopped and the name of the Apostolic Vicariate of Addis Ababa modified.
