Étienne de la Vaissière

Étienne de La Vaissière ( born November 5, 1969 in Dijon ) is a French historian and orientalist.

He is at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales since 2011 Directeur d' Etudes. He teaches medieval Central Asian history and specializes in economic and social history of the region from the 4th to the 9th century, before and after the arrival of Islam.

A main focus of his research form the Sogdians.

He is married and has three children.
