Ettore Fieramosca

Ettore Fieramosca (* 1476 in Capua, † 1515 in Valladolid ) was an Italian condottieri.

Life

Fieramosca occurred in 1492 that of the Neapolitan King Ferdinand II, for whom he first fought in the Italian wars against the invading French Charles VIII services. In 1497, he distinguished himself with his brother Guido at Fermo, where he defended the castle of Offidia.

In 1502 he fought under Prospero and Fabrizio Colonna in Apulia against the French.

As a French commander, Charles de la Motte, expressed in an ironic and derogatory tone about the Neapolitan soldiers, Ettore Fieramosca urged the French to a duel ( Disfida di Barletta ). On February 13, 1503 were 13 French knights against as many Italian knights. The fierce battle won by the Italians under the leadership Fieramoscas. Charles de la Motte arose during the fight.

In April 1503 Fieramosca took together under the Spaniard Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba y Aguilar participated in the Battle of Cerignola, which the French lost. In this case, the French commander, the last Duke of Nemours was killed.

After the victory Ettore Fieramosca was appointed Count of Miglionico and received some Feudalgebiete.

When Napoleon's troops conquered the Kingdom of Naples in 1805, they destroyed in Barletta a monument that was erected in memory of Ettore Fieramoscas victory. It was prepared in 1846 again.
